“I believe”… Two words when placed side-by-side reference a meaning of limitless will & possibility! Not many verbal statements establish the electrifying energy that “I believe” can!

Just the simple act of entertaining thoughts of “I believe”, (often referenced as “never give up” … not to be confused with “should give up”), stir goose bumps barely matched by most other stimuli’s. Is it not true; we humans journey through our lives with a never-ending quest for seeking gratification from others? It would be easy to say that believing in one’s self is enough, yet a quick glace into our past and we rapidly recall the personal joys felt when a parent, teacher or friend encouraged us by assurances such as; “go ahead, you can do it, I believe in you”!

Our business life is not so much different then our personal life. Corporate legacy has come and gone based on the commitment of “I believe”. In fact, businesses’ die or thrive based on “I believe in”…

Consider the incalculable potentials when examining supplemental phrases such as:

“I believe in myself”

“I believe in you, I believe in him and in her”

“I believe in this”…

For quite some time now, prosperity has been likened to the ability to thrive financially.  I contest that notion, as I believe that to prosper is to thrive.  Period.  To thrive requires balance in all facets of life.  Balance gives us peace, and peace allows us to prosper.  Simply make a mental note of daily living.  When we are out of balance, something is being neglected, and that very thing is rearing its head for the attention it needs.  Certainly when that happens, we are not at peace.

The advancement of women in business is not only a necessity and a mark of our progress, but it was an inevitable part of evolution for humanity.  The historical and severe imbalance in the workforce has created an indefinable assortment of issues that we are trying to rectify to this day.

At the essence of true balance are equal proportions of both masculine and feminine energetic forces.  Masculine energy (not to be

There is no doubt that the role of women in the workplace has changed dramatically in the last 40 years.  With every day that goes by, attitudes continue to evolve and new opportunities present themselves. Examples of this advancement are everywhere, but one needs too look no farther than our last two Secretaries of State.  Both of which (excluding your political views) have represented our country as well as any man.

However, in business the bottom line eventually becomes performance in the face of competition.  It is hard to succeed in business if you do not have the ability to compete and deal with adversity.

Since the dawn of time, the male creature has existed in a culture of competition, whether as a hunter, gladiator, knight or athlete.  One of the greatest societal shifts (possibly in the history of modern mankind), is the participation of women (and girls) in competitive sports.  This is especially true in the US.  (There are some excellent statistics available at www.womensportsfoundation.org if you are really interested.)

As a newbie to The Thresher online experience, let me start by saying “I’m soooo happy to be here”! : )

Credible facts as to why I am adding my comments to Glenn’s blog topic: As a women, I entered the work force at a very young age of 13. I started as an entrepreneur and entered the corporate world at a ripe age of 16. I’ve experienced a lot within my 30-so years of making a living. In 2001 I reentered the world of entrepreneurship, and the very nature of my current corporate service introduces me to many diverse situations and circumstances (Aylet, Inc) Another credible fact is; my recent clients have been “majority governed” women businesses.

I am not in favor of business gender characterizations (as I believe we define ourselves by our personal behaviors). However, the statistics for women advancement are overwhelming and indisputable when highlighting “women’s” successes!

I can personally attest: the women I’ve worked with are thought-filled & decisive. I watch women make decisions quickly, with confidence, and demonstrate extraordinary eloquence when sharing ownership “wins”. I have witnessed women handle mistakes with a pride of ownership that I have not seen so widely wielded by men, and I…

It has been said time and time again that women have come a long way. In business we now consider this to be fact. According to Catalyst.org, nearly 51% of women are in managerial or professional occupations. More women are obtaining MBAs than ever before in history and the landscape of Corporate America has changed drastically. Yet, although major strides have been made by women in every industry - there are only 28 female CEOs in the Fortune 1000 companies.

Companies are more inclined, than ever before, to promote women knowing the benefits and profitability that entails. In a recent study by Pepperdine University, women in top positions reported beating the industry average in terms of productivity and profitability (Womenomics, 2009).

I think the problem is not all creditors are getting the same deal on the sale. For example some may get 25 cents on the dollar while others only get 14 cents per dollar owed. The investors will of course be the ones who actually loose the money. I would assume that some of the groups are more politically connected than others and this does seem to effect the way some are payed back overall.

I think it’s a great idea and it’s a long time in coming. There is no reason why we should not talk and have open dialog. But we must talk or we will always fight. It’s when countries stop talking that bad things happen. It’s because of our meddling in the past and our lack of communication that’s put us in this spot with the middle east now.

As a symbol of the industry of the American people, General Motors has stood as a monolith for a century, helping spur the growth of this country from coast to coast.  Today, they make official their very uncertain future through a filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in a federal court in southern New York.

Readers, please feel free to tell us what you think.  This Open Thread is a great place to start.  Registration or OpenID are required for commenting (this cuts down on the comment spam dramatically).  Registration is a quick and painless process requiring only a valid email address (which we never trade/sell/rent or share).
